ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- No. 43 Korey Lovett led the UCF men's tennis team (5-1) to a 6-1 victory over Tennessee Tech on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
Lovett paired with Harrison Richmond in doubles to make quick work of Eduardo Mena and Alberto Esteban, 6-0, at the top spot.
On the third doubles court, Mariano Porter and Danny Kerznerman teamed up to defeat Marc Mila and Jorge Alfonzo, 6-2.
In singles, Lovett, who joined the ITA national rankings this week, added another win to his undefeated season and was the first singles match finished. The Brevard, N.C., native garnered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mena on the top court. Chris Barrus followed suit by claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win against Guillermo Nicolas at the fourth position.
Richmond clinched the match for the Knights with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Esteban on court three.
The Black and Gold played out the two remaining courts. On court five, Danny Kerznerman dropped the first set 7-5, to Alfonzo. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native came back and quickly won the second set, 6-0, and carried the momentum over to a 6-3 third set win.
The last Knight on court, Porter battled back and forth with Carlos Tajes before taking the first set, 7-6 (3). The Cuernavaca, Mexico, native was up 4-1 in the second set before Tajes tied it up at 4-4 and forced a tiebreaker at 6-6. Porter won the match with a tiebreaker score of 7-6 (4).
The Knights host Florida Atlantic on Sunday at the USTA National Campus at noon.
