LEXINGTON, Ky. (UCFKnights.com) - On the first day of the nation's premier early-season indoor track and field meet, the 2017 Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational, the Knights turned in a strong showing inside Nutter Field House.
For the second weekend in a row, senior Chelsea Gobourne posted a top-five finish in the weight throw. The Sarasota, Fla., native's first attempt in the event proved to be the best, as it not only advanced her into the finals, but the 64-04/19.61m distance also gave her a third place finish.
Sophomore Jhane' Carter made the most of her final throw, as the 59-3/18.07m distance gave her an eighth place finish in the standings.
One week after making her UCF indoor debut, freshman Natosha Jordan improved in the high jump. On her last attempt, the Augusta, Ga., native cleared 5-04.25/1.63m to set a new season-best and tie for 13th in the standings. Junior Kebreyona Acker tied for 17th, clearing 5-02.25/1.58m.
In their first 200-meter dash of the season, seniors Ashley Jocelyn and SheKara Martin both finished second in their heats. Jocelyn finished in 24.62 while Martin posted a time of 25.31. Junior Ebony Crear finished fourth in her heat with a time of 25.53.
Junior Makeda Elliott rounded out the individual competitors in action on Friday. She finished 21st in the long jump at 16-03/4.95m.
UCF's distance medley team closed the day with a fifth place finish, posting a time of 11:44.30.
The Knights wrap up the two-day event with some of the top teams in the country tomorrow inside Nutter Field House.
