ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – In the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, UCF was tabbed to finish third in the league. The poll was announced on Wednesday by the league office.
The Knights are coming off a 38-22 campaign, which included the program's third-straight NCAA Regional Finals appearance.
After graduating eight players from last season, the Knights are a young squad that features nine freshmen (seven true and two redshirt). Seniors Brittany Solis, Linnea Goodman, Manami Calixto and Willow Kalinen will be looking to lead the underclassmen during the 2017 campaign.
One of the Knights top returners is sophomore Cassady Brewer, who earned The American Rookie of the Year in 2016. The Apopka, Fla., native drove in 23 runs by delivering three doubles and two homer. She also drew a team-high 32 walks, leading to a .370 on-base pct.
Tulsa was selected as the preseason favorite by the league's coaches followed closely behind by South Florida.
UCF is already underway in its preparation for the season opener on Feb. 10 at the UCF Softball Complex. The Knights will face Florida A&M and Pittsburgh in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. before facing Kentucky the following afternoon.
Season tickets, which includes admission to all 28 home contests, can be purchased for $50. Youth packages are also available for fans ages 2-17 for $25. For more information about ticket options, click here.
