ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – With the nonconference schedule winding down, the UCF women's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Omaha for a 2 p.m. contest in CFE Arena.
At 9-2, the Knights have matched the program's best start since the 1984-85 season when they also went 9-2 over the first 11 games.
On Saturday, UCF posted a 74-54 win at Georgia Southern, collecting its fourth road win of the season. Senior Zykira Lewis used five first half three-pointers to set the UCF career record with 215. She finished with a game-high 21 points. Sophomore Tolulope Omokore posted her second double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 20 points while grabbing a season-best 11 rebounds in the win.
Zykira Lewis leads the Black and Gold, averaging 16.5 points per game and ranks fourth in the nation with 40 steals. The Bartow, Fla., native is shooting 44.7 percent from the floor and has a team-leading 24 three-point baskets.
Junior Aliyah Gregory joins Lewis in the national rankings as her 2.78 steals per game rank 40th in the country. Redshirt junior Joslyn Massey, who leads the team with 80 rebounds, ranks 18th in the nation with 4.3 offensive rebounds per game. Freshman Korneila Wright dished out a career-best eight assists to bring her total to a team-leading 38, and averages team-high 29.0 minutes per game.
The Knights rank third in the nation in steals (148) and fifth in steals per game (13.5). With their opponents averaging just 51.1 points per game, the Black and Gold scoring defense ranks eighth in the country. UCF has outrebounded 10 opponents this season, with its 12.5 rebounding margin ranking 11th nationally.
Omaha brings a 6-5 record to Orlando. The Mavericks have won their last two contests, including a 70-50 decision at Florida A&M on Sunday.
The Mavericks are led by Mikaela Shaw, who averages 15 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per contest. She also has a team-leading 42 assists. Michaela Dapprich averages 10.1 points per game for Omaha and has started all 11 contests. Remy Davenport leads the Mavericks with 13 steals and has hit a team-high 26 three-point field goals.
Omaha ranks 16th in the nation in three-point field goals per game (9.2) and 17th in three-pointers made (92).
The squads meet for the second straight year, and the second time overall. The Mavericks claimed a 75-60 win in UCF's season opener in Omaha on Nov. 14, 2015.
UCF closes non-conference play on Dec. 28 when UC Davis comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest.
