TALLAHASSEE, Florida (UCFKnights.com) – Danny Kerznerman and Mariano Porter of UCF men's tennis advanced in the singles main draw on Friday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday.
Mariano Porter played, arguably, the match of the night coming back to defeat Alexandru Gozun of USF in three sets with two of them going to tiebreakers. After dropping the first set 6-4, the senior grabbed the second set 7-6 (5) to stay alive and then earned the match victory in the third, winning 7-6 (6). He advances to face Oliver Landert of Florida Gulf Coast at 9:30 a.m.
Danny Kerznerman also rebounded following a setback in the first set, defeating Georgia's Robert Loeb to advance to Saturday's Round of 32. The Alabama transfer fell 6-7 (5) in the first but went on to 6-1, 6-3 victories to close out Loeb. Kerznerman will face Jannis Koeke of Georgia State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
In doubles play, Gonzalez and Chris Barrus advanced with an 8-4 victory over Kennesaw State's duo of Calvo and Slade. The Knights duo then dropped their next match to 8-5 to USF rivals Roberts and Bertran.
