ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF junior Korey Lovett had his run at the Harlingen Country Club USTA Futures Tournament come to an end Wednesday morning, falling in the first round of the main draw.
Lovett, who qualified for the main draw after winning a pair of matches in the qualifying round this past weekend, matched up against the eighth-highest ranked player in the tournament in former TCU standout Nick Chappell. The new Knight battled against the former three-time All-Big 12 player but eventually lost in two sets 6-3, 6-2 to end his tournament run.
Lovett will take the next 10 days off before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, to compete at another USTA Futures event in the Player's Choice Open. He will be joined by fellow transfer Kalman Boyd.
The remainder of the Knights begin competition at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Tallahassee, Florida, Thursday morning.
