ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Just five days after wrapping up at the Annika Invitational, the No. 22-ranked UCF women's golf team will be back in action Sunday, when the Knights begin play at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
UCF head coach Emily Marron will send out Ashley Holder, Maria Balcazar, Johanna Larsson, Ayaka Nakayama and Kaeli Jones to take part in the team portion of the tournament. Nicolette Donovan will also represent the Knights as an individual.
"This week is a quick turnaround for us and we are looking to keep our momentum going," Marron said. "We have really had some consistent performances from everyone in the lineup. This is another elite field to test ourselves against. Our three seniors have played this course and that knowledge will be valuable for the underclassmen."
The tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston, will be played at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. The course will play at 6,224 yards and par will be 72.
The 21-team field consists of 10 teams – including UCF – in the most recent Golfweek Top 50. No. 2 Florida State, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 South Carolina and No. 8 Clemson highlight the ranked teams in the 14th Annual Cougar Classic.
Individually, Balcazar enters this tournament ranked No. 27 in the nation, while Holder is No. 81.
The tournament is set to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, with 18 holes to be played each day Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
