UCF Baseball in Collegiate Summer Leagues
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Thirteen members of the UCF baseball team are set to venture across the nation to play in seven collegiate summer leagues. The Knights are competing in Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Cre Finfrock is headed to the Cape Cod League to play for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The campaign for the two-time defending league champions starts on June 10. A pair of freshmen, catcher Anthony George and left-handed pitcher Bryce Tucker, are also heading to The Bay State and begin their season with the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate League on June 2.
A trio of Knights -- freshman right-handed pitcher Thaddeus Ward, junior right-handed pitcher Campbell Scholl and junior outfielder Eli Putnam -- are spending the summer in the Valley League in Virginia. Ward has been slotted as the opening night starter for the Staunton Braves on June 1, while Putnam and Scholl begin the Waynesboro Generals campaign on the same night.
Traveling to the Badger State is sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Deramo. He will play for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the Northwoods League that began on May 31.
A trip to Ohio is in store for sophomore Eric Hepple to play with the Lima Locos, who were aided to the Great Lakes Championship last year by junior lefty Drew Faintich. The right-handed pitcher starts up the Locos season on June 7.
Faintich is off to North Carolina to play in the Coastal Plains League for the Edenton Steamers. The campaign began on May 31.
Four Knights -- junior outfielders Logan Blum, Josh Moser, infielder Brooks Morgan and sophomore right-handed pitcher Chris Williams -- are staying close to home to play in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. Moser and Williams will suit up for the Winter Garden Squeeze and open up June 3 against Blum with the Deland Sun. The season also begins for Morgan with the Winter Park Diamond Dogs on the same day.
