MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - The 2016 campaign for the fourth-seeded Knights came to an end on Wednesday in a 4-0 loss to No. 5 Houston in the quarterfinals of The American Championship at the indoor courts of the Racquet Club of Memphis.
UCF completed the campaign with a 12-7 record. The squad earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, the highest for the program since 2005.

In the doubles competition, Houston took the matches at No. 1, 6-2, and No. 3, 6-3, to secure the first point. Senior Caroline Eberhart and sophomore Emilia Granstrom were ahead 5-2 when the Cougars clinched doubles.
Since the match was being played indoors, only the first four singles matches were started. The Cougars pulled out a second-set tiebreaker at No. 2 to go ahead 2-0 before they notched a straight-set win at No.3.
At No. 1, Eberhart started quickly with a 6-3 victory, but Houston came back to win the next two frames to clinch the match.
It was the final match for seniors Caroline Eberhart, Sofia Baptista and Clare Mendell. The trio spent the past four years in the Knights' lineup.
