UCF - No. 33 Tulane Stats

NEW ORLEANS, La. (UCFKnights.com) - Junior Chris Barrus provided a spark for the UCF men's tennis team against No. 33 Tulane on Sunday, but the Knights fell to the Green Wave, 6-1, in an American Athletic Conference match at City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.

The Green Wave held a 1-0 lead in the match after doubles action with wins on court one and court three.

Wins on courts one and two added to Tulane's lead. The Green Wave clinched the match with a win at No. 3 singles, but Barrus tallied a point for the Knights at No. 4 singles.

Barrus, playing at the fourth position for the first time this season, notched a straight-set, 6-1, 6-4, win over Nikolas Tukic.

Tulane closed the match with wins on courts five and six to claim the 6-1 victory.

The Knights are back at the UCF Tennis Complex on March 6, hosting No. 8 TCU at noon. The match marks the first of a six-match stretch of home matches for the UCF.

Coach's Corner:
"It was a humbling experience. All the credit to Tulane and the program they have built.

"We started decent in doubles, then the collective wheels fell off. We fought the best we could, but they were better.

"In singles, we started in a deep hole, which is contrary to our intent and philosophy. Chris won his first set at 4 for us, and Nico had the first set in sight to keep us in the match. All of the guys battled as best we could, but again, Tulane was dominant.

"We learn and explore deeper into our process of becoming the best we can be each day, and for our next match. We are excited to return home and start our March homestand."
