ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's tennis team closed out a five-match homestand by splitting action on Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights dropped a 4-0 decision to UT-Arlington, before bouncing back to defeated UConn in an American Athletic Conference match.
In the first match of the day, the Mavericks jumped out to the early lead by claiming the doubles point. UT Arlington clinched the match with three straight singles wins for the 4-0 victory.
The Knights rebounded in the second match of the day. Wins on all three doubles courts set the tone for the match. UCF led 1-0 heading into singles action.
Junior Reece Acree kept the momentum rolling with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles. He posted matching 6-1, 6-1 scores to defeat Arnaud Valentin. Junior Chris Barrus set the Knights up for the match victory with a 6-0, 6-1 on court three.
Senior Jose Sangroniz clinched the 4-0 win for the Knights with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles. He defeated Jacob Spreyer 6-2, 6-3.
The Knights held leads on the remaining courts when Sangroniz clinched the victory.
UCF takes its second road trip of the season next weekend, heading to New Orleans, La. UCF will take on a pair of ranked opponents on the trip, facing No. 72 Arizona on Feb. 27 and No. 27 Tulane on Feb. 28.
