Elvira Leads in Estero

ESTERO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- Sophomore Manuel Elvira will look for his first collegiate victory in Tuesday's third and final round of the Homewood Hilton Airport Invitational.

Elvira is 4-under par through the first two rounds, which were held Monday, in the tournament being hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Elvira, who has one previous Top 20 finish in his collegiate career, got hot on the back nine of his first round Monday.

The Santander, Spain native was 2-over after the front nine in his first round Monday. He was 3-over after 10 holes. But Elvira carded birdies on Nos. 11, 12, 14 and 17 to finish the first round 1-under.

Later in the day, he scored a pair of birdies on the front nine -- both on Par 4 holes. He followed that with two more birdies on the back nine, before giving one stroke back with one lone bogey for the round. By the time he was finished with his second 18, he was 3-under for the round and 4-under for the event.

He is tied with Ryan Orr and Sam Horsfield of Florida, which holds the team lead. The Knights are fifth, but just five strokes out of second place at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club.

Freshman Andrew Arft is tied for 25th at 9-over. Sophomore Juuso Kahlos is tied for 32nd at 10-over for. Freshman Donnie Trosper is in 41st (+13) and junior Ryan Stovash rounded out the team lineup (51st, +17).Freshman Thomas Le Berre is tied for 15th at +6, but is playing as an individual.

Third round action is slated to begin at 8 a.m. The Knights tee off between 8:18 and 8:54 a.m. Live scoring is available by clicking here.
