FT. MYERS, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's tennis team traveled to Ft. Myers this weekend for the Bedford Cup which featured teams from 11 in-state programs. The Knights finished the day 5-0 in singles play.

The sportsmanship award was given to sophomore Emilia Granstrom. This award is in honor of the late USC Upstate student-athlete Sarah Vande Berg.

Seniors Sofia Baptista and Caroline Eberhart each posted victories in the A singles flight. Eberhart defeated Florida Gulf Coast's Elizabeth Means 6-3, 6-2 and Baptista beat Noemi Hemmerich of North Florida 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Fellow senior, Clare Mendell, was also victorious over Florida Atlantic's Marisa Ruiz in the B singles flight, 6-2, 6-1.

Sophmore Monica Matias and freshmen Diana Dehterevich each posted their third singles victory of the weekend on Sunday. Matias held off South Florida's Juliana Cardosa in a three set match, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Dehterevich also came out victorious in a three-setter over Florida International's Kaitlin Brozovich, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 10-8.

As a team, UCF recorded 12 singles and 4 doubles wins over the weekend during the Bedford Cup. The Knights are back in action on October 22 for the ITA Regionals in Athens.
