GREENVILLE, N.C. (UCFKnights.com) -- A late goal by East Carolina stunned the UCF women's soccer team in Thursday's 1-0 decision on a windy, misty night.
The Knights (6-4-1, 1-2-0 American) and Pirates were gridlocked in a scoreless battle for more than 89 minutes until ECU dribbled the length of the field to allow Kendall Frey to bury it in the upper left corner with 31 seconds left on the clock.

The outcome could have turned out differently if a goal by junior forward Carol Rodrigues in the 59th minute had not been negated by an offside penalty. Senior midfielder Ashley Spivey dribbled to create space and sent a pass to sophomore forward Hannah DeBose, who took it down the right side for a cross to Rodrigues in front of the net.
Goalkeeper Vera Varis had recorded four saves, including a gutsy one six minutes into the second half when she met Lana Spitler in the box, prior to the late score.
The Knights suffered their first loss at ECU in series history, entering the match holding a 3-0 record in Greenville.
