CINCINNATI, Ohio (UCFKnights.com) - UCF senior first baseman James Vasquez hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, but the Knights ended up falling 5-3 at Cincinnati Friday. A career-best was set by senior catcher Jordan Savinon by catching three base stealers at second.

Extra-base hits for the Knights (22-10, 2-3 The American) were also registered by senior left fielder Tommy Williams with a triple and senior shortstop Dylan Moore with a double.

For the second-straight game, Cincinnati (8-20, 2-3 The American) put momentum on its side by opening the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Williams began the second frame for the Knights with a triple down the right field line. A sac fly by freshman second baseman Kyle Marsh knotted the contest, 1-1.

The Bearcats loaded the bases in the third inning with one out and scored three times to retake the lead, 4-1. Kyle Mottice drove in a pair of those runs with a double past the bag at third.

After Cincinnati increased its lead to 5-1, Moore doubled off the fence in right to begin the sixth inning, then Vasquez connected on a no-doubt homer to right. The homer ended the night for Cincinnati starter David Orndorff (1-1), who went 5 1/3 innings with three earned runs and one strikeout.

The Knights last opportunity came in the eighth inning as senior right fielder Erik Barber and Williams notched one-out singles, but ended up being stranded following two fly outs.

The loss was handed to sophomore right-handed pitcher Robby Howell (4-3), who went 3 1/3 innings, and gave up four earned runs. Senior lefty Parker Thomas and junior Harrison Hukari each logged 2 1/3 innings of work.

Seven Bearcats picked up hits, while R.J. Thompson paced the team with two base knocks. The second-consecutive save was notched by Andrew Zellner, who recorded the final six outs.

UCF looks to avoid the series sweep at Cincinnati on Saturday with the first pitch set for noon.

The Knights are back at home on April 7 against Jacksonville with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. Single-game tickets for the 2015 baseball season are currently on sale by clicking here or calling 407-823-1000.
