ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's tennis team used a 5-1 win over visiting Drexel to extend its winning streak to five matches on Thursday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.
Due to weather concerns, the teams skipped doubles action and began the match with singles competition.
Junior Jose Sangroniz opened the match in UCF's favor with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Mariano Porter remained undefeated in singles action with a straight set win at No. 4 singles. Senior Francesc Aulina pushed the Black and Gold advantage to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court one.
The Knights clinched the match win with sophomore Reece Acree's 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles. Drexel claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, but the Knights closed the match with sophomore Inaki Espindola's comeback win at No. 3 singles to earn the 5-1 win.
UCF returns to the UCF Tennis Complex on Friday, facing American Athletic Conference foe No. 27 Tulsa at 10 a.m.
