ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Meeting Temple for the second time in 10 days, the UCF women's basketball team couldn't come away with a different result Tuesday night. The Knights fell to the Owls, 71-54, at CFE Arena.
Temple used a 22-2 run in the second half to create a gap simply too great for UCF to overcome.
Zykira Lewis paced the Knights with a game-high 20 points, her 11th 20-point outing of the year. Freshman Aliyah Gregory finished with 12 points and senior Brittni Montgomery added 10 along with 8 rebounds.
The Knights hopped out to a 7-2 lead after Gregory made good on her and-1 attempt, but Temple was able to swing 5 unanswered points to even things up.
The teams continued to push for a clear edge, but it wasn't until Temple's 9-2 stretch just before the close of the half that allowed the Owls to command a 39-28 lead.
Gordon snuck in the final bucket of the half to round herself out with 9 points and keep the gap under double digits, 39-30, at the break.
Two 3-pointers from Lewis and Gregory along with a layup from Montgomery helped UCF shrink the deficit to 42-38 in the first three minutes of the second half. But from there, Temple used four treys to fuel its 22-2 run that lifted the Owls to their third-straight win.
UCF closes out the month of January on the road at Tulsa on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN3. The Knights will look to sweep the Golden Hurricane after picking up a 76-70 win at home earlier this month.
Fans can get in on the action all year with the "Season Ticket Card," starting at $15. Tickets are available today by calling (407) UCF-1000 or buying online by clicking here.
