ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 18 UCF women's soccer team extended its win streak to nine-straight matches in impeccable fashion with a 3-0 shutout over rival USF in Tampa on Friday night.

With the ball bouncing around the box, a USF defender erred when her header was directed toward her own net. Although one of her teammates tried to clear it in time, it had already crossed the goal line for an own goal in the first 19 minutes to put the Knights on the board.

The Knights (12-2-0, 5-0-0 AAC) capitalized again when senior Tatiana Coleman sent a long cross into the box for junior Ashley Spivey in the 40th minute, marking Spivey's third goal over the last four matches.

Coleman notched a goal of her own in the 42nd minute after junior Amanda Wilkin gained control of the ball and crossed it from the left corner to her teammate. Coleman's three points accounted for her ninth-straight point-scoring match, tying the school record set in 1995 by Amy Jones.

"For us, to just win games is not enough," UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "We're always looking to grow and improve. We were obviously very happy with a 3-0 game going in at half. My concern was that we might take the foot off the pedal. For us, best is our standard. What's the next goal? The next goal is to have the shutout. We really did a good job defensively on focusing for another 45 minutes. For us, it's always having that championship mentality. That's really what I'm proud of."

Goalkeeper Connie Organ matched her career high in saves with six to keep the Knights' third-straight shutout and ninth of the year intact.

UCF returns to the pitch on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Temple before meeting UConn in Storrs, Connecticut, on Oct. 18 at noon.
