TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF redshirt sophomore Kalen Hambrick won the hammer throw on Thursday night at the USF Bulls Invitational. A second-place finish in the same event was registered by senior Destinee Romain as the throwers for the Knights opened the outdoor season at the USF Track.
The top hammer throw at the meet was by Hambrick at 52.98m/173-10. Romain tallied a 48.42m/158-10 mark.
Freshman Siaina Campbell started her UCF career with a throw of 40.07m/131-05 in the javelin to earn a four-best mark. The Milford, Mass., native was just off the freshman record of 40.59m/133-2.
The rest of the Knights begin the outdoor campaign on Saturday with the Black and Gold Challenge. The newly resurfaced UCF Track and Field Complex is set to host conference foes, Rutgers and Cincinnati, along with Florida, FIU and Jacksonville.
