ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 11 UCF track and field team will be busy on its home track this weekend when the Knights welcome 12 programs along with Olympic and World champions at the UCF Invitational Friday and Saturday.
In addition to a field that includes No. 7 Florida, Ohio State, Maryland and future conference affiliates UConn and Cincinnati, seven-time Olympic medalist Veronica Campbell-Brown and three-time Olympic medalist DeeDee Trotter will both be competing. Brown already holds the UCF track and field complex records for the 100M and 200M.
The Knights are ready to defend their home turf, where they claimed 12 first-place finishes last weekend in the season opener. All-Americans Aurieyall Scott and Octavious Freeman will make their outdoor debut when they compete in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Competition begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the hammer and the running events will pick up at 6:30 p.m. with the 3,000M steeplechase. Saturday resumes at 9 a.m. with the discus and 4x100 relay will kick off the track events at 1 p.m. Saturday will also feature a recognition ceremony for UCF's senior class of sprinter Amanda Leland, jumper Sonnisha Williams, hurdler Lutisha Bowen and pole vaulter Erica Weiss. The meet is UCF's final home competition of the season.
