Former UCF golfer Brad Schneider has advanced to the first qualifying stage of the PGA Tour's Q-School.
Schneider took part in a pre-qualifying tournament at Brunswick Country Club in Brunswick, Ga., which wrapped up on Friday. The top 40 finishers in the event moved on to the first qualifying stage, which will take place at 13 different courses in mid-October.
Schneider was tied for sixth-place, shooting a three-round total of 206 (-10) in the pre-qualifying event. He opened the tournament with an even-par 72, but steadily climbed the leaderboard in the second and third rounds. He shot a 5-under 67 in both of the final two rounds to account for his final standing.
Schneider wrapped up his UCF career after the 2011-12 season. During his career with the Knights, Schneider won the 2012 David Toms Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America for overcoming adversity. He was a first-team All-Conference USA honoree and a member of the PING All-Southeast Region team in 2012. Schneider helped lead UCF to a fifth-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Regional Tournament in Stanford, Calif., which earned the Knights a spot in the NCAA Championships field.
In addition to his 2011-12 accolades, Schneider was a two-time second-team All-Conference USA selection during his collegiate career and was also a member of the C-USA All-Freshman team.
