STANFORD, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 22 UCF men's golf team will enter the final round of the NCAA Regionals at the Stanford Golf Course in eighth after recording a 279 (-1) Friday. The top five teams at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month.
The Knights, at 3-under 557, are just four shots behind fifth-place Tennessee (553, -7). Second-ranked Cal leads the regional at 546 (-14), followed by No. 14 San Diego State (547, -13). No. 8 Stanford, the regional host, is tied for third with UAB at 8-under 552.
During the second round, UCF was led by Jose Joia. The sophomore carded a 3-under 67 and is now tied for eighth at 136 (-4). He was tied for 17th after 18 holes.
UCF is making its sixth-straight NCAA Regional appearance. The last three trips to the postseason have come under head coach Bryce Wallor.
In addition to Joia, UCF's Ricardo Gouveia also enters the final round in the top-25 individually. The sophomore carded a 71 (+1) Friday and is tied for 24th at 139 (-1). Both Greg Eason and Brad Schneider are tied for 33rd at 141 (+7). Schneider carded 1-under 70 during the second round.
Thirteen squads are competing at Stanford and the field includes five top-25 teams.
UCF will tee off Saturday at 7:30 a.m. local time along with Oregon State and Wichita State.
