IRVING, Texas (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team was well represented Monday when Conference USA announced its women's golf individual honors. Katie Mitchell was named the C-USA women's Freshman of the Year and was also voted on by the league's coaches to the All-C-USA Second Team.
Mitchell wasn't the only Knight to earn recognition as junior Carolin Pinegger also earned second team honors and rookie Monifa Sealy earned a spot on the All-C-USA Third Team.
The trio of golfers ties the most athletes under head coach Courtney Trimble to earn C-USA accolades. Mitchell's Freshman of the Year honors are the second in program history as Sara Hurwitch earned the dubious distinction in 2007.
Last week, Mitchell tied for third at the league championship, recording the highest finish by a UCF women's golfer at the event. In 2011-12, Mitchell has registered six top-10 finishes. She leads the Knights with a 74.6 stroke average.
Pinegger has seven top-20 finishes this season. She tied for 12th at the C-USA Championship. The C-USA honor is the third of her career. In each of her first two campaigns at UCF, Pinegger was tabbed to the All-C-USA Third Team. Sealy, who placed sixth at the C-USA Championship, has three top-10 performances as a rookie and leads the team with seven round of par or better.
UCF will learn about postseason play tonight at 9 p.m. when the NCAA holds its selection show for the NCAA Tournament on NCAA.com. The Knights are looking for their first postseason appearance in three years.
