DADE CITY, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After completing its second round of the USF Invitational on Monday, the No. 16 UCF men's golf team remains in first place. The team shot a 285 (-3) at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. With one round left, the Knights have a six-stroke lead over second-place No. 22 Georgia and a seven-stroke lead over third-place Middle Tennessee State.
The squad received a lift from a different set of golfers today. Sophomores Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) and Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) led the Knights in scoring today. Eason fired a 70 (-2), while Gouveia posted a 71 (-1). Eason was consistent, notching a 35 (-1) on the front and the back nine. Gouveia recorded no bogeys and four birdies in his final 16 holes, which propelled him to a tie for 23rd.
Also bouncing back in day two was sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) A strong start on the front nine, 35 (-1), helped Wilshire finish at 72 (E) for the day. Wilshire's 72 is his best round since firing a 71 (-1) at the Prestige at PGA West in October.
Senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is still in second place, but now shares the spot with Arkansas State's Chris Pledger. Schneider's strong back nine, 33 (-3) was key to his 72 (E) today. Schneider led the Knights in birdies, with five. Four of the five birdies came on the back nine.
Entering the final day of play, sophomore Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) will look to repeat his first-day magic. After coming into the day in first place, Joia currently sits in a tie for 12th. He is one-stroke away from getting back into the top 10.
Justin Dorward of Louisville posted a 67 (-5) on the day and holds a two-stroke lead over Schneider and Pledger.
