ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off a second-place finish at the John Hayt Invitational, the No. 16 UCF men's golf team will head to Dade City, Fla., to play in the USF Invitational. Teams will play one round a day at the three-day tournament at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
The tournament, hosted by USF, will commence on Sunday. The rest of the field consists of Arkansas State, Cincinnati, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, No. 18 Florida State, No. 22 Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina, Troy and Villanova.
Sophomore Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) seeks to repeat his strong performance from last year's tournament. Eason fired a 207 (-9) and finished in second-place.
After recording a 216 (E) and finishing in a tie for eighth at the John Hayt Invitational, senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week this past week. He is seeking another solid performance this upcoming week. Schneider found success at last year's tournament, posting a 214 (-2) and finishing in a tie for 13th.
Sophomores Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) and Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) have competed in each of the team's tournaments this season. Gouveia leads the squad with nine par or better rounds. He is coming off a tie for 12th at the John Hayt Invitational. Joia finished in a tie for 15th after firing a 69 (-3) in the first round.
Competing in his fifth tournament of the season, sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) will be appearing for the first time at the USF Invitational. Wilshire got better with each round at the team's last tournament. He improved by two strokes from the first to second round and one-stroke from second to third round.
This will mark the Knights' second appearance at the USF Invitational. UCF finished sixth in last year's tournament. Fans can follow the action live on golfstat.com.
