Day One Results/Round Three Tee Times
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A beautiful sunny day in Florida kicked off the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational Monday, and the No. 18 UCF men's golf team posted a two-round total of 566 (-10) to grab a share of second place. The Knights trail only Florida Gulf Coast (-13) by just three strokes while they are tied with Wichita State, as they are the only three schools to shoot under par.
Serving as the host institution, UCF is seeking its fifth-consecutive team title at Rio Pinar.
A long day of competition got underway with the Black and Gold claiming second through the first round, firing a 282 (-6) to sit behind Wichita State's 280 (-8). Jose Joia paced the Knights with a 3-under 69, and Ricardo Gouveia, Greg Eason and Brad Schneider all had identical rounds of 71 (-1).
UCF stayed near the top of the leaderboard after round No. 2, posting a team score of 284 (-4). Joia notched another impressive 18-hole score of 2-under 70, moving him into a tie for second on the individual board with a 5-under 139. Gouveia is right behind Joia in fourth due to a 69 (-3) in the second round and a 36-hole total of 140 (-4). Eason (tied for 12th) and Schneider (tied for 19th) also stand in the top 20.
Playing as an individual, Kyle Wilshire is tied for 12th overall thanks to a 1-under 143. FGCU's Alex Medinis paces the field at 7-under (137).
The tournament will conclude with the third and final round Tuesday. Play at Rio Pinar begins at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
