ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Competing in its first home dual-match of the 2012 season, the UCF women's tennis team took care of East Carolina, 6-1, Friday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The match kicked off a stretch where the Knights (2-4) play 11 of their next 12 contests on their home courts.

"We played really solid today. It was good to start the home schedule like this," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas. "I think everybody felt pretty comfortable out there, and it's great to get an early win against a conference opponent. And we have a tough battle against Tulane on Sunday so we are looking forward to hosting them as well. We had some tough road matches in the early part of the season so it's nice we can stay on campus and get some confidence on our home courts."

UCF wasted little time in jumping on top of East Carolina (0-2) by sweeping all three doubles matches for an early 1-0 overall lead. At the top spot, Genevieve Lorbergs and Alexis Rodriguez surrendered just two games in an 8-2 win vs. Neena Wanko and Renata Bakieva, while Taylor Dubins and Andrea Yacaman cruised to an 8-3 victory over Dana Gray and Danielle Terpko at No. 3. Closing out doubles play, Courtney Griffith and Jenna Doerfler posted an 8-6 decision vs. Natalie Collins and Yilian Zhang at No. 2.

The Knights then earned impressive results in singles action as well. Giving up just one game at No. 4, Dubins captured a 6-0, 6-1 triumph vs. Terpko, and Yacaman almost duplicated that feat in a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 vs. Gray. Also winning in convincing fashion, Rodriguez notched a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 vs. Zhang.

Sealing the 6-1 team victory for the Black and Gold, Doerfler picked up a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0(10-6) win vs. Collins at No. 3, and Lorbergs hung on at the No. 1 spot for a 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over Wanko.

UCF will take a break Saturday before hosting Tulane Sunday at 10 a.m. Admission for all fans to the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
