ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Wind and chilly conditions couldn't stop the UCF women's soccer team from topping Miami at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in a 1-0 win on Saturday night.

Junior forward Tishia Jewell scored the Knights' lone goal from 18 yards out into the wind.

"For the first game of spring, it was an intense, physical match," Head Coach Amanda Cromwell said. "There was definitely some good soccer, and a lot of our players got to play. The defense did well and really didn't give Miami many chances - their best chances came off corner kicks."

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lianne Maldonado, whose only appearance in 2011 for the Knights was a 16-minute stint in goal at Southern Miss, played all 90 minutes and secured the shutout.

UCF will host its alumni game on Saturday at 11 a.m. before the Knights take on Rollins College at 1 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
