ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading the UCF women's soccer team to one of the most successful seasons in school history, Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) earned a spot Friday on the Lowe's Senior CLASS First Team. Reis was one of five players nationally to garner first-team honors during an announcement made by Lowe's at the 2011 Women's College Cup in Kennesaw, Ga.
The goalkeeper, who was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, was selected to the first team for her achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
In November, Reis led the Knights to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight for the first time since 1987. She shined during the postseason, especially during the Sweet 16, when she stopped North Carolina in penalty kicks to send UCF to the next round.
An All-Conference USA Second Team selection, Reis played all but 16 minutes during the campaign. She totaled 81 saves and boasted a 0.91 goals-against average.
Reis is an NSCAA College Scholar All-American, a consistent member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll with a cumulative GPA of 3.62 and is scheduled to graduate this month. Reis is active in the community, and has visited Florida Hospital's Children's Unit to spend afternoons with children recovering from illnesses. In the fall of 2010, she participated in the "Help for Haiti" cause by packaging food and necessities for those who suffered as a result of the earthquake. This past spring, Reis hosted a booth at a Relay for Life event, raising money for cancer research.
When Reis travels back to Brazil, she voluntarily runs coaching clinics for impoverished children. At the end of each UCF season, she donates her soccer equipment to need children in her homeland.
A participant in the Brazilian National Team Camp in 2009, Reis was an NSCAA All-America selection as a sophomore, a Hermann Trophy Watch List member in 2009 and an All-C-USA selection as a sophomore and junior. The Knights played in the NCAA Tournament every year with Reis as their goalkeeper.
Lizzy Simonin of Memphis was selected as the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS AWARD winner. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
