ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off an unbeaten homestand last weekend, the UCF women's soccer team will hit the road this weekend against two Conference USA opponents. The action begins on Friday, as the Knights will travel to Marshall at 7 p.m. in Huntington, W.Va. The weekend concludes on Sunday, as UCF will square off with East Carolina at 2 p.m. in Greenville, N.C.
The Knights are looking to continue their strong season as they currently hold an overall record of 7-2-3 with a 2-1-1 mark in conference play. UCF only has seven regular season contests remaining with all seven of them coming against fellow C-USA members.
Friday's opponent, Marshall, is 2-9-2 on the season with a 0-3-1 record in C-USA. However, the Thundering Herd are coming off a thrilling double overtime 1-1 draw against fellow conference foe UAB Oct. 2. Sophomore goalie Lindsey Kerns made her first two career starts over the weekend for Marshall and only allowed two goals in 200 minutes of action. Kerns posted an impressive 12 saves in the draw with UAB and 21 total saves in the two games.
Sunday's opponent, East Carolina, is 5-4-1 on the year and 0-3-0 in conference play after losing to undefeated and No. 6 Memphis 2-0 on Oct. 2. ECU has yet to score a victory in conference play thus far this season, but it does finish its schedule with six of its final eight contests at home where it has only lost once this year. ECU is led by junior forward Caty Butler, an aggressive player who leads C-USA in goals, points and points per game.
UCF enters this weekend having outscored its opponents 23-12 and out-shot its opponents 178-124 on the season. The Knights' offense is led by junior forward Tishia Jewell who leads C-USA in assists and assists per game. Senior midfielder Stacie Hubbard has come on strong late in the season and has also eclipsed the double-digit point plateau this year.
Last weekend, the Knights hosted UTEP and Colorado College for a two-game homestand. UCF came away with a 4-1 victory over the Miners on Sept. 30 as Hubbard scored two goals on free kicks to lead the Knights. UCF then battled to a 1-1 draw with Colorado College on Oct. 2 in a game that went two overtimes. Freshman Emily Grider scored her first career goal for the Knights in the second half.
