ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Off to an incredible start this season, the UCF men's golf team has set its lineup for The Prestige at PGA West, which starts Sunday in California. Head coach Bryce Wallor's team has claimed titles at both of its events so far this fall.
UCF's lineup for The Prestige at PGA West is headlined by senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and sophomore Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal). Schneider claimed medalist honors at the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate, and earned two tournament exemptions from the UCF coaching staff, and also received another exemption after a top-15 performance at the Adams Cup of Newport. Gouveia took medalist honors at the Adams Cup of Newport in only his second event as a Knight.
The pair will be joined in California by sophomores Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal), Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) and Hojin Kang (Lake Mary, Fla.). Joia also finished in the top 15 at the Adams Cup of Newport to receive a tournament exemption.
The Knights had four rounds of qualifying for the tournament at Northshore, and Kang and Wilshire recorded the lowest scores among the non-exempt players. Kang posted a four-round total of 282 (-6), while Wilshire carded a 288 (E). Kang will be making his season debut in California.
Thanks to its sensational start to the season, UCF is listed at No. 6 in the Golfstat NCAA Head-to-Head Standings and sixth in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
