WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Competing at the nation's premier event, the 15th-ranked UCF men's golf team finished in eighth Tuesday at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The Knights, who completed a strong turnaround at the three-day event, were led by sophomore Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal), who tied for 10th.
UCF was tied for 13th after Sunday's first round. The Knights carded a 300 (+12) on the final 18 to finish at 897 (+1). The eighth-place showing was UCF's second-best performance in its eight years competing at Isleworth.
No. 1 Texas claimed the tournament title at 856 (-8), followed by No. 18 LSU (882, +18) and No. 12 North Florida (886, +22).
Joia concluded the tournament at 4-over 220. Fellow sophomore Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) tied for 20th (222, +6).
UCF was hosting the event along with Texas Tech.
The Knights finished ahead of several of the top teams in the country. No. 13 Oklahoma State finished seven shots behind UCF in ninth at 40-over 904. Florida, ranked 38th in the country, placed 10th at 909 (+45).
UCF senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) recorded a 2-over 74 on the final 18 to finish tied for 25th (223, +7). Sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) tied for 53rd at 234 (+18) and fellow sophomore Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) tied for 64th at 239 (+23).
Jordan Spieth of Texas took medalist honors. He carded a 67 (-5) Tuesday to finish at 11-under 205.
The event was the fourth and final tournament of the fall for the Knights. UCF opened the slate by taking titles at its first two events.
UCF will open the spring season on Feb. 11 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
