ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In only his second tournament as a Knight, UCF golfer Ricardo Gouveia claimed another honor to add to his Conference USA Player of the Week award. A week after leading UCF to its second victory of the fall, Gouveia has been named the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore showed Knights fans why he was considered a major pick-up from Lynn University, after claiming first place at the Adams Cup of Newport with an 11-under 204. Gouveia was at his best when it mattered most, shooting a 6-under 66 during the final round.
If Gouveia can continue the type of play that earned him accolades such as the Phil Mickelson Award and Golf Coaches Association of America All-Freshmen team last year, the No. 25 Knights can expect to move up higher in the rankings.
He is the second UCF golfer to receive the award this season. Brad Schneider claimed honors after their first victory of the fall.
After a two-for-two start to the season, the Knights have a chance to make it three in a row when they travel to California, Oct. 9 for The Prestige at PGA West.
