MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (UCFAthletics.com) - Thanks to some impressive individual showings Monday, the No. 25 UCF men's golf team is second after two rounds of play at the Adams Cup of Newport at the Newport National Golf Club. After posting a 567 (-9) during the first 36 holes of the event, the Knights enter Tuesday's final round just three shots behind No. 16 Georgia.

The Knights are led by sophomore Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal), who is tied for first along with Georgia's Bryden MacPherson at 6-under 138. Gouveia opened the 18-team event with a 70 (-2), and then carded a 4-under 68.

Gouveia is one of three UCF golfers in the top 10 individually. Senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) sits in fifth at 3-under 141, and sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) is tied for eighth at 1-under 143.

UCF claimed the team title at the Adams Cup of Newport a year ago. On Monday, the Knights led after 18 holes after posting a 288 (E). Entering the final 18 holes, Texas Tech and Yale are tied for third at 579 (+3).

UCF sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) is tied for 26th (147, +3) and sophomore Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) is tied for 31st (148, +4).

The tournament is the second event of the fall for the Knights. On Sept. 11, UCF claimed the team title at the Northern Intercollegiate in Illinois. Schneider earned co-medalist honors.

Both Schneider and Martin competed in Rhode Island a year ago for the Knights. Martin placed fourth, and Schneider tied for 21st.

Martin and Wilshire both made their season debuts Monday.

Rhode Island is hosting the tournament, which is serving as a homecoming for UCF head coach Bryce Wallor. An Ocean State native, he graduated from Rhode Island in 1998.
