ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAathletics.com) - After claiming the title at its season-opening event earlier in the week, the UCF men's golf team has established its lineup for next week's Adams Cup of Newport in Rhode Island. Two Knights will make their season debuts at the event, which begins Monday.
Junior Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) and sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) both joined the UCF lineup following their play during two rounds of qualifying this week at the Rio Pinar Country Club. Martin carded a 4-under 140 and Wilshire posted a 142 (-2).
The pair will join senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and sophomores Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) and Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) in the UCF lineup. The three Knights all earned exemptions due to their play at the Northern Intercollegiate in Illinois this past weekend. Schneider claimed co-medalist honors at the tournament, while Gouveia and Joia both posted top-20 finishes.
UCF will be seeking its second-straight title at the Adams Cup of Newport. A year ago, the Knights finished the event at 4-over 868, 18 shots ahead of second-place West Florida. Martin tied for fourth, and Schneider tied for 21st.
