ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - News and notes from the UCF football team for Thursday, Aug. 4. Today's finally the day the Knights take the field for their first preseason practice of 2011.
News
-Practice No. 1 is set for 3:20-5:30 p.m. today. Preseason practices are open to the public, and cameras are not permitted.

-Head coach George O'Leary was not only busy with his players reporting all day Wednesday, he also had several interviews to attend to. He first met with David Pingalore from Local 6 for a sit-down interview in his office. O'Leary then was a radio guest on The Beat of Sports with Marc Daniels (ESPN 1080), on Sirius XM College Football Playbook with Jack Arute and Mike Leach and on Tuck & O'Neill (ESPN 1080).

-Appearing in all 14 games for the Knights last year, he totaled 138 rushing yards on 35 carries, including a touchdown against South Dakota.
-In two seasons on the gridiron, has 46 carries for 185 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt in 24 games.
-Hometown of Shoreham, N.Y., on Long Island is approximately 28 miles from George O'Leary's hometown of Central Islip.
Stat of the Day
-The Knights forced opponents to turn the ball over at least twice in each of the final four games of 2010. Opponents also had at least one turnover in each of the final 12 games against the Black and Gold.
What to Look For
-Friday's practice will be held from 9:10-11:30 a.m.
-Saturday marks the first practice with shoulder pads, while Monday will feature full pads.

Should UCF host the C-USA Championship Game for the fourth time in seven years, it would be played on Saturday, Dec. 3, and season ticket holders will receive the first shot at the best seats.
