ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off of an impressive summer, which included victories in a pair of events, UCF's Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) is understandably confident about his junior campaign. Martin, who has been a member of two Conference USA Championship title teams during his time in Orlando, also hopes to take on a leadership role with this year's squad.

Along with senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.), Martin is one of only two upperclassmen on the Knights. After watching Schneider and other veterans like Nuno Henriques lead in the past, Martin is ready to mentor his younger teammates.

"In the past, Brad and Nuno demonstrated some great leadership. I kind of looked up to them the last couple of years. Now it is my turn to take over that role and help out the team," Martin said.

Martin should also help out the Knights with his play on the course. Over the summer, he claimed the title at the Oregon Open Invitational. Over 180 golfers, including numerous professionals, participated in the tournament, which was sponsored by the PGA Pacific Northwest Section. Martin, who competed in six events for UCF in 2010-11, also took medalist honors at the Snohomish County Amateur in Washington.

He credits his strong summer play to his relaxed approach to the game, and hopes to carry that over to his junior year.

"I really want to take it little by little," he said. "That is what I did over the summer. It worked perfectly. I didn't get too far ahead of myself. I just focused on what I could do that that time."
