ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFathletics.com) - In the women's soccer regular season opening weekend, UCF forward Tishia Jewell (Satellite Beach, Fla.) was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com's Women's College Soccer Team of the Week.
No. 24 UCF began its regular season on Aug. 19 at home in the newly expanded UCF Soccer Complex against USF. Jewell scored two goals and added two assists in the 5-1 triumph over the Knights' in-state rivals. Her first goal came from 18 yards out in the first two minutes of the contest to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
Jewell's second goal came in the 19th minute as she chipped a shot over the USF goalkeeper's head to put UCF ahead 3-0. In the match against No. 18 Wake Forest on Aug. 21, Jewell took a game-high six shots and played the full 90 minutes for the Knights.
As the defending Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, Jewell finished last season ranked 23rd in the nation with 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists, helping her earn a spot on the NSCAA All-Central Region First Team.
In the preseason opener against Texas A&M Jewell scored the Knights' lone goal putting the ball into the far left corner of the net to tie the game, 1-1, before falling to the Aggies 2-1.
UCF returns to action Sept. 2 at San Diego State beginning at 7 p.m. The Knights next home game is Sept. 16 against Jacksonville at 7 p.m.
