ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Behind a stellar all-around performance from sophomore Angelica Crump (Atlanta, Ga.), Black defeated Gold, 4-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23), Saturday afternoon during the UCF volleyball Black and Gold Scrimmage held at The Venue at UCF. Crump posted a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs, to go along with three total blocks.
Freshman Delaina Sarden (Lawrenceville, Ga.) also had a solid outing for the Knights in the event, recording a team-best nine total blocks and six kills. Sophomore Nichole Riedel (Denver, Colo.) contributed six blocks and seven kills, while junior Evija Vilde (Riga, Latvia) tallied nine kills, eight digs and three blocks during the five-set match.
Senior Rachel Vukson (Oakville, Ont.) and sophomore Marie Reiterova (Luxembourg) combined for 57 assists on the day, with Vukson dishing out 29 assists and Reiterova doling out 28.
Defensively, juniors Meredith Murphy (Austin, Texas) and Dani Harrison (Tallahassee, Fla.) led the Knights with 17 digs apiece, while sophomore Roxy Mendez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) adding 11 digs.
The Black and Gold Scrimmage served as the finale to the Knights' preseason training camp, which consisted of two-a-day practices over a two-week span to prepare the squad for its season-opener vs. South Alabama on Aug. 26.
Season tickets for the 2011 season are available now for only $30, which includes 18 regular-season matches at The Venue at UCF and admission to three home tournaments. Also available for purchase this season is the UCF Gold Pass. For $75, the Gold Pass grants the avid Knights fan admission to all home volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball and track & field events.
The Knights open the 2011 season Aug. 26-27 when they host the Courtyard by Marriott/UCF Classic at The Venue at UCF. During the event, UCF will take on South Alabama, Michigan State and North Florida.
