ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior Connor Arendell advanced to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open Thursday following a strong round during local qualifying. Arendell carded a 4-under 68 to place second at the Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales.

Arendell, who was named to the All-Conference USA First Team last week, was one of four golfers in Lake Wales to move on to sectional qualifying. Steve Lebrun, a professional, won the qualifier at 67 (-5). The U.S. Open will be held June 16-19 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

Arendell is the second Knight to move on to sectional qualifying. Earlier this week, fellow junior Brad Schneider advanced in Tampa.

Arendell has played exceptionally well for the Knights in 2010-11. He has appeared in all 10 tournaments, recording four top-10 finishes. The Cape Coral, Fla., native took the individual crown at the first event of the year - the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Indiana in September.

Last month, he helped UCF win its third-straight C-USA Championship title. Arendell tied for 13th at the league championship.

UCF will open play at the NCAA Regionals in nearby Ocala on May 19.
