ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior Brad Schneider recorded a strong round during local qualifying Monday to advance to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open. Schneider was one of four golfers to move on following local qualifying at the Hunter's Green Country Club in Tampa.
Schneider posted a 4-under 68, tying for second alongside Chris Kennedy. Longtime professional golfer Gary Koch placed first at 5-under 67. The U.S. Open will be held June 16-19 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
Schneider has registered a strong 2010-11 campaign for the Knights, helping the team claim its third-straight Conference USA Championship title and earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals. He has played in all 10 of UCF's tournaments, and has a three top-20 finishes.
The Knights will participate in the regionals close to home. The squad learned Monday that it will compete May 19-21 at the Golden Ocala Golf Club in nearby Ocala.
