DADE CITY, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team opened play at the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club Friday, and the Knights are tied for ninth after 18 holes. UCF carded a 293 (+5) in the first round at the 21-team event.
Play at the three-day, three-round event will resume Saturday morning.
UCF freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) recorded a 4-under 68 and is tied for fifth individually.
Middle Tennessee State is atop the team leaderboard at 14-under 274. North Texas is second at 280 (-8), followed by Villanova (283, -5).
A pair of Knights - junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) - are tied for 35th at 74 (+2). Junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is tied for 74th after posting a 77 (+5), and senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 84th (78, +6).
The tournament is serving as UCF's third event of the spring.
On Tuesday, the Knights finished fourth at one of the nation's premier events - the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach. The tournament included several nationally-ranked squads.
