ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Four Knights are amongst the top seven scorers as the UCF men's golf team holds a comfortable lead following today's first two rounds of play at the Rio Pinar Invitational at the par-72, 7,001-yard Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando.
The Knights shot a 557 on Monday with that 19-under-par sum good for a 13-stroke advantage over second place Liberty at 570. No. 21 NC State is third with a 575, 18 strokes behind the Knights. UCF's opening-round 275 was just a single stroke off of the tournament record of 274. The Knights will look for their fourth consecutive Rio Pinar Invitational in Tuesday's final round which begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Individually, four Knights are amongst the top seven golfers in the field. Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) is second overall in the 96-golfer field, turning in a 67 and a 68 on Monday for a 135 (-9). That leaves him one stroke behind Daniel Mazziotta of Florida Gulf Coast whose 134 (-10) includes a first-round 65. Competing as an individual, Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) is in third place with a 136 (-8) after carding a pair of 68s today. Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is officially second for the Knights and fourth in the field with a 138 (-6) combining a 70 and a 68 today while Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for seventh in the field with his 141 (-3).
Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.) is fourth for UCF and tied for 12th overall with his 143 (-1) while Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) came home with a 151 (+7). Also competing as an individual, Hojin Kang (Lake Mary, Fla.) tallied a 153 on Monday for the Knights.
