PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team posted an impressive second round Monday to move into a tie for fifth at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club. The Knights carded a 9-over 297 during the second round to move up two spots in the team standings.
UCF is ranked 29th nationally and is tied with No. 38 TCU entering Tuesday's final round. No. 13 Auburn leads the field at 577 (+1), and No. 20 Arkansas, No. 7 LSU and No. 46 Tennessee are tied for second at 584 (+8).
Nine of the 15 squads participating in the three-day tournament are ranked in the top-50 nationally.
Second-ranked Florida is seventh after 36 holes, trailing the Knights and TCU by four shots (590, +14).
Three Knights are currently in the top-20 individually. Junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is tied for eighth (143, -1). After recording a 1-over 73 Monday, freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) sits tied for 12th at 145 (+1). Senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) entered the second round tied for 41st, but moved to a tie for 20th at 147 (+3) after tallying a 1-over 73. Junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) are tied for 49th (152, +8).
North Florida is hosting the event in Ponte Vedra Beach.
