PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Competing at an event that includes nine of the top-50 squads in the country, the UCF men's golf team is tied for seventh after Sunday's opening round at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club. UCF junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is tied for second individually at 4-under 68.
The 29th-ranked Knights posted a 289 (+1) in the first round. UCF is tied on the team leaderboard with No. 46 Tennessee. No. 13 Auburn and No. 38 TCU are tied for first at 6-under 282. No. 7 LSU is third (284, -4).
Arendell is tied with Auburn's Blayne Barber in second. LSU's John Peterson is atop the leaderboard at 5-under 67.
Play at the three-day, 15-team tournament will resume Monday.
UCF freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) is tied for 24th at 72 (E). Senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 41st at 74 (+2) and junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 49th at 75 (+3).
The tournament is serving as UCF's second of the spring.
