Men's Golf Starts Spring with Strong Showing

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team posted a strong performance at its first event of the spring as the Knights finished fifth Sunday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. UCF concluded the three-round, 14-team tournament at 867 (+27).

During Sunday's final round, UCF registered a 12-over 292. UCF, ranked 29th nationally, was one of five ranked teams competing in Gainesville. Tournament host and third-ranked Florida took the title at 4-over 844, followed by No. 13 Auburn (853, +13), No. 6 LSU (862, +22) and No. 44 North Florida (866, +26).

UCF was led by freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England), who placed ninth at 213 (+3). Eason carded a 2-under 70 Sunday. He was one of four UCF golfers who finished in the top-30 individually.

Senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) tied for 19th at 217 (+7). Junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) tied for 22nd (218, +8) and fellow junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) tied for 29th (219, +9). Freshman Hojin Kang (Lake Mary, Fla.) also participated in the tournament, and placed 66th.

UCF finished one stroke ahead of Coastal Carolina (868, +28) and two shots ahead of Florida State (869, +29).

Four players, including three from tournament host Florida, tied for first at 210 (E).

The Knights will return to action on Feb. 27 at the John Hayt Invitational in Jacksonville.
