GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team opened its first event of the spring Saturday in fine fashion as the Knights are in fourth place heading into the third and final round Sunday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. UCF stands at 15-over par through 36 holes, trailing No. 6 LSU which sits in third place by one stroke.

Fourteen teams are competing at the event, including six-top 50 squads. UCF is ranked 29th nationally.

Opening Saturday morning at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, UCF completed round one in fifth place by shooting a 292 (+12). That was highlighted by Connor Arendell firing a one-over 71.

After a short break, the Knights flew out of the gate in round two to post a 283 (+3), climbing into fourth overall. Along with Arendell posting another respectable number with a two-over 72, Nuno Henriques and Brad Schneider each racked up four birdies and had only two bogies to finish with a two-under 68.

Arendell and Henriques will kick off the final round Sunday in a tie for 11th individually at plus-3. Florida's Andres Echavarria leads overall at minus-1. Host and No. 3 Florida owns the team lead at plus-3.

The tournament is the first of six regular-season events for the Knights this spring.
