FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's indoor track & field team wrapped up its weekend at Arkansas' Tyson Invitational with a new school record in the 4x400-meter relay Saturday afternoon. Senior Champelle Brown, junior Jackie Coward and freshmen Afia Charles and Aurieyall Scott combined to run a 3:36.03, breaking the previous school record of 3:40.15 set on Jan. 15 at the Kentucky Invitational.

The previous record was set by the same foursome that broke it Saturday to finish fifth. That time is also the sixth fastest by any team in the country this season, behind just Texas A&M, Arkansas, Texas, LSU and TCU.

"This weekend was a great test for our team. We broke several school records and ran against some of the best teams in the United States," said head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. "Sheila Paul's 200 meter time improved dramatically and the mile relay team ran a competitive race against very reputable teams."

In the 200 meters, Scott continues to pace the Knights in 2011. On the second day at the Randal Tyson Track Center, Scott finished third in 23.22, five-hundredths of a second off her school record of 23.17 in the event. Fellow freshman Dominique Booker was seventh in 23.50, while junior Sheila Paul set a new personal record of 23.68 to finish 12th. Freshman Tyler Smith (24.57) and senior Lynne Layne (24.58) were 45th and 46th, respectively.

Sophomore was the lone member of the Knights to compete in the high jump, recording a height of 5.600/1.68m. Fellow sophomore Tomika Story recorded a jump of 39-4.50/12.00m as the only member of UCF in the invitational division of the triple jump.

Two other members of the Knights were in Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the throwing events of the Dick Taylor Invitational hosted by UNC.

Freshmen Destinee Romain and Satrina Oliveira both competed in the shot put Saturday afternoon. Romain finished second with a new personal-best throw of 42-5.25/12.93. Oliveira was right behind in third place with a personal-best throw of her own of 40-4.75/12.31m.

Oliveira was also entered in the weight throw, finishing 14th with a distance of 40-7.50/12.38.

"The ladies did a great job today," said assistant coach Jeff Chakouian. "The last few meets have been challenging, but they never gave up. They competed well and made technical adjustments during the meet. It was a big step in the right direction and they need to keep improving every day over the next two weeks to be where we want to be at the C-USA meet."

The Knights will now use a two week hiatus to train and prepare for the C-USA Championships at Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse on Feb. 26-27.

"I am pleased with the way the team competed today and all weekend," Smith Gilbert added. "This meet was a great preview for the NCAA Championships, but now we have to go back to Orlando and focus our preparation on the Conference USA Championships in two weeks."
