ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie will get a first look at her 2010-11 squad this weekend as the UCF softball team is set to host the UCF Fall Tournament Saturday, as well as a doubleheader against Seminole State College Sunday at the UCF Softball Complex.
Saturday's tournament will have the Knights taking on Daytona State College at 9 a.m., Hillsborough Community College at 10:45 a.m. and Florida State College at Jacksonville at 2:30 p.m.
Seminole State College will also compete in the event, but will not face UCF until Sunday when the two teams go head-to-head in an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
The Knights are coming off their third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2010, when they posted a 36-23 overall record, a 16-7 Conference USA clip and played in the C-USA Championship title game in Houston vs. East Carolina.
During its successful year, UCF had a program-record six student-athletes earn All-C-USA softball honors, which included another UCF-record three selections to the All-C-USA First Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) and Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) all garnered first team accolades, while Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) and Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) were selected to the second team. Marissa Menendez (Tampa, Fla.) rounded out the Knights' record number of selections by being named to the all-freshman team.
Lane, Land, McClain and Menendez all return to the Black and Gold's roster this season and will be seen in action this weekend.
Luers-Gillispie will also get the chance to see her five newcomers in game-action for the first time during the tournament. The skipper added Lacey Dinney, Haley Douglas, Patrice Fee, Allie Jest and Kellie Todd to the roster during the offseason and has big aspirations for them come spring.
