WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Thanks to strong second rounds from junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England), the UCF men's golf team moved from 13th to ninth at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Monday. The Knights entered the day in 13th at the top-flight tournament, and are now ninth after posting a 294 (+6) during the second round.
Arendell had the best second round among the 75 golfers at the 15-team tournament at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club, carding a 5-under 67. He started the day tied for 66th, and moved to a tie for 15th (147, +3). Eason is now tied for ninth at 1-over 145 after posting a 73 (+1) Monday.
The Knights enter Tuesday's final round at 601 (+25). Ten of the top-30 ranked teams in the country are in action at the event.
Fifth-ranked Alabama leads the field at 6-over 582. No. 12 LSU and No. 18 Stanford are tied for second (587, +11), followed by TCU (589, +13). UCF sits ahead of three top-25 teams in the standings, including No. 10 Georgia (11th at 29-over 605) and No. 6 Texas (12th at 30-over 606).
UCF senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 46th at 154 (+10). Junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 58th at 12-over 156 and sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) is tied for 65th (159, +15). Robin Wingardh of Tennessee is first individually (139, -5).
Texas Tech is hosting the event at Isleworth. The tournament is not open to the public, but live stats are available on Golfstat.com.
